I’m a sucker for instant gravy: it’s quick, easy and it doesn’t taste all that bad. However, you can’t beat a good homemade gravy, it’s just a bit of a faff to prepare. So this year, I’m try to spend as little time in the kitchen as possible, while still preparing delicious food and for the most part I’m doing alright. My prep is always done the week leading up to Christmas Day, so all I really have to do is heat the gravy and enjoy.
Serves 2-4
Ingredients
- 2 Vegetable Cubes
- 1 Red or White Wine Stock Cube
- 1 Litre of Water
- 45ml Red Wine (optional)
- 1 Medium Onion
- 1.5 Tsp Mixed Herbs
- 2 Tbsp Butter
- 2-4 Tbsp Gravy Browning
- 3 Tbsp Cornflour or Plain Flour
Directions
Peel and finely chop the onion, now sauté with the butter in a pan on medium heat.
Add all of the ingredients to a blender. Now heat the gravy in a saucepan on a low heat; stir often as it will stick. The gravy will also thicken up quickly, so you may need to add more water if it’s too thick for you.
NB: Cornflour tends to turn gelatinous when left to cool, so you will need to serve this gravy immediately.
